Brainwashing parasite

August 6, 2008

Here’s something I read that was just so cool I had to share it. It is about a parasitic fungus that makes it host behave in strange ways that are beneficial to the fungus, as well as a parasitic worm that makes its host drown itself. If you love the funny tricks evolution comes up with, you’ll love this!

But wont the parasitic worm also drown?

  2. pipvig Says:

No, that’s the beauty of it: The worm in question is an aquatic worm (in its adult form) that infects land creatures (insects, if I got it right). So when the worm is ready for its adult stage, it makes its host drown itself so it can return to water.
